    El autor parte de la observación de que la desigualdad es un rasgo transversal y permanente de nuestras relaciones sociales que justifica la pregunta acerca de las posibilidades que tendría la imposición de normas más igualitarias y más equitativas y, por ende, la pregunta por el futuro de la democracia en América Latina. Se propone explicitar la hipótesis de que ninguna política social y ningún modelo de desarrollo tendrán éxito si no asumen la desigualdad de recursos materiales y de condiciones de vida, como así también de la distribución de capacidades, libertades y estima social. Para ello parece indispensable reavivar la discusión pública crítica sobre principios normativos orientadores para una política igualitarista fuerte.

    Der Autor geht von der Feststellung aus, dass die Ungleichkeit ein transversales und permanentes Charakteristikum unserer gesellschaftlichen Beziehungen ist und die Fragen danach rechtfertigt, welche Möglichkeiten die Durchsetzung egalitärerer und fairerer Normen haben und welche folglich die Zukunft der Demokratie in Lateinamerika ist. Er versucht die Hypothese zu erläutern, der zufolge keine Sozialpolitik und kein Entwicklungssystem Erfolg haben werden, solange sie nicht von der Ungleichheit an materiellen Ressourcen und an Lebensbedingungen, sowie von der ungleichen Verteilung von Befähigungen, Freiheiten und Sozialprestige ausgehen. Dazu scheint eine neue öffentliche Diskussion über normative Prinzipien unabdingbar, die für eine starke Gleichheitspolitik orientierend sein können.

    The author’s starting point is the idea that inequality is a permanent and traverse feature of our social relationships that justifies the question about the possibilities that the imposition of more reasonable and more equal norms would have for the future of democracy in Latin America. This paper intends to explain the hypothesis that no social policy and no development model will be successful if people do not assume the inequality of material resources and conditions of life, as well as the distribution of capacities, liberties and social esteem. Consequently, it seems crucial to promote critical public discussion on normative principles towards a strong egalitarian politics.
