    La Edad Moderna supuso el florecimiento conventual en el País Vasco y la villa de Bilbao, como capital económica del norte peninsular, no fue ajena a ese fenómeno.

    Los siete claustros femeninos que existieron en Bilbao son el máximo exponente de las pautas que se siguieron en el mundo católico, donde las diferencias sociales que existían más allá de los muros monacales se reflejaban también en estos, como, por ejemplo, refleja la dote aportada por las profesas. Asimismo, la economía conventual manifiesta que los juros, los censos y los arrendamientos jugaron un papel esencial en el devenir de las religiosas, circunstancia compartida con la villa de Bilbao. Por lo tanto, este artículo se va a centrar en la economía claustral femenina bilbaína durante los siglos XVII y XVIII, pero sin olvidar las consecuencias sociales que crearon esos elementos económicos.

    In Early Modern Age took place the conventual blooming in the Basque Country, and the city of Bilbao, which in economic terms was the most important city in Northern Spain, was not indifferent to that phenomenon. There were seven female convents in Bilbao and all of them were the example of the rules carried out in Catholic world, where the existing social differences were also repeated inside the nunneries, as the dowries carried by the women reflect. On the other hand, the conventual economy shows the thatjuros, censos and rents also played an important role not only in the life of the nuns but in the economic evolution of Bilbao. The aim of this paper is therefore to focus on the female conventual economy of Bilbao during the 17th and 18th centuries, but not forgetting the social impact that the economic measures had.
