At Otago Polytechnic, traditional lectures in analytical chemistry have been replaced by a HyperCard™ based approach which uses the computer as a key factor in the instruction of both analytical problem solving and laboratory apparatus operation. It involves the instructor acting as a facilitator for learning, with the computer providing an instructional and feedback role. The design of the computer environment has also provided social benefits, with preliminary feedback from students showing a very good acceptance of the program.
