Resumen de “Serviços” de homens e mulheres: a questão do gênero nas ocupações da fábrica de tecidos do biribiri (1918 -1959)

The Textile Factory of Biribiri, located in the Diamantina-MG, employed 875 women and 123 men in the period between 1918 and 1959. It began its productive activities at the end of the XIX century and closed by the beginning of 1970’s. For nearly a hundred years of existence, the factory employed, for the most part, poor people of the region and surroundings. The purpose of this article is to present an excerpt from the history of women in the Textile Factory of Biribiri (1918-1959). In this way, it seeks to identify the workers, especially the women who spun and teed. From quantitative and qualitative information it delineates the social profile of women and men demonstrating occupations according to gender.

A Fábrica de Tecidos do Biribiri, situada em Diamantina-MG, empregou 875 mulheres e 123 homens entre 1918 e 1959. Iniciou suas atividades produtivas no final do século XIX e finalizou-as no início da década de 1970. Durante quase cem anos de existência, a Fábrica empregou, em sua maior parte, pessoas pobres da região. O presente artigo tem como propósito apresentar um recorte da história das mulheres na Fábrica de Tecidos do Biribiri (1918-1959). Dessa forma, busca-se identificar quem eram os(as) operários(as), sobretudo as mulheres que fiavam e teciam. A partir de dados quantitativos e qualitativos, delineia-se o perfil social das mulheres e dos homens demonstrando as ocupações de acordo com o gênero.
