    This article aims to approach the animation cinema as a possibility of historical source. Avatar: The Legend of Aang (2005-2008), American animated series inspired by Japanese anime, as a document for reflection. The study is presented in theorists who create tools for analysis of animated images, recognize their specificities as human production and approach the cinema as the creator of historical discourse. The themes of the plot and the construction of the narrative in the episode "The day of the Avatar" allow the interdiction between the memory of a group and the universal aspect of fact, as well as highlighting the very writing of History

    Este artigo objetiva abordar o cinema de animação como possibilidade de fonte histórica. Para tanto, utiliza o desenho Avatar: a lenda de Aang (2005-2008), série animada estadunidense inspirada nos animes japoneses, como documento para a reflexão. O estudo se apoia em teóricos que criam instrumentos para análise das imagens animadas, reconhecem suas especificidades como produção humana e abordam o cinema como criador de discurso histórico. Os aspectos do enredo e construção da narrativa no episódio “O dia do Avatar” possibilitam interligações entre a memória individual de um grupo e o aspecto universal de determinado fato, pondo, assim, em destaque a própria escrita da História.
