El objetivo de esta comunicación es presentar la biografía de Francisco Gómez Sánchez, veterinario militar nacido en Baeza (15-6-1879) y fallecido en Jerez de la Frontera (7-12-1939), a la edad de 60 años. La investigación se ha realizado a partir de informaciones encontradas en documentos digitalizados disponibles en Internet y en la Biblioteca Nacional de España (anuarios militares, periódicos de la época), artículos y libros sobre historia del Cuerpo de Veterinaria Militar y datos comunicados personalmente por familiares que tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlo. Los resultados obtenidos indican que Francisco Gómez Sánchez revalidó sus conocimientos veterinaria en la Escuela de Córdoba ingresando en 1897 en el Cuerpo de Veterinaria Militar como Veterinario 3º. Tras ascender en 1900 a veterinario 2º, gran parte de su trayectoria profesional la realizó en Jerez de la Frontera donde tenía su guarnición el Regimiento de Caballería Alfonso XII. Francisco Gómez Sánchez participó en la memorable carga de la caballería española en Taxdirt (cerca de Melilla) el 20 de septiembre de 1909, siendo ascendido por su heroica acción a Veterinario 1º. En 1915 fue ascendido a Veterinario Mayor y unos años más tarde (1920-1926) realizó sus funciones en el Depósito de Sementales de Jerez de la Frontera donde fue promovido a Subinspector Veterinario de 2ª clase. Entre 1927 y 1931 le confirieron la Jefatura de Veterinaria Militar de la 2ª Región (Sevilla) siendo ascendido a nales de ese año al cargo de Subinspector Veterinario de 1ª clase. The aim of this work is to present the biography of Francisco Gómez Sánchez, military veterinarian was born in Baeza (15-6-1879) and died in Jerez de la Frontera (7-12-1939), at the age of 60 years. e investigation has been carried out from information found in digitized documents available on the Internet and in the Spanish National Library (military yearbooks, newspapers of the time), papers and books on the history of the Military Veterinary Corps and data provided personally by family members who had the opportunity to know him e results obtained indicate that Francisco Gómez Sánchez revalidated his veterinary knowledge at the School of Córdoba, entering in 1897 as a veterinarian in the 3rd Military Veterinary Corps. In 1915 he was promoted to Senior Veterinarian and a few years later (1920-1926) he performed his duties at the Stallion Depot in Jerez de la Frontera where he was promoted to 2nd class Veterinary Subinspector. Between 1927 and 1931 he was awarded the Military Veterinary Headquarters of the 2nd Region (Seville), being promoted at the end of that year to the position of First Class Veterinary Sub-inspector. Between 1931 and 1934 he held the position of Military Veterinary Inspector of the 2nd General Inspection (Zaragoza). In 1936 he received the Plate of San Hermenegildo, causing a discharge for service by order of March 30, 1939.
