  Después de una breve introducción, se señalan los diversos efectos que produce el cuarzo en las pastas cerámicas, tanto por acciones físicas como por reacción química, evaluando los aspectos positivos y negativos de estos efectos. A continuación se discute la secuencia general de transformaciones que tiene lugar durante la cocción de las porcelanas, tomando como base sencilla de discusión las porcelanas triaxiales. Después se hace un comentario acerca del empleo del sílex en la formulación de composiciones cerámicas y, por último, se estudia la influencia del tamaño de grano de la sílice sobre las propiedades mecánicas de las porcelanas, y se describen los efectos de la molienda fina sobre las propiedades del cuarzo.

  Follov^ing a short introduction, the various effects produced by quartz on ceramic bodies are given. These may be the result both of physical actions and chemical reactions. At the same time, an evaluation is made of the positive and negative aspects of such effects. Next, the general sequence of the transformations that take place during the firing of porcelain is discussed, taking triaxial porcelain^ as a simple base for discussion. A commentary is made on the use of flint in the formulation of ceramic bodies and on the influence of the silica grain size on the mechanical properties of porcelain. Finally, the effects of fine grinding on the properties of quartz are described.

  Nach einer kurzen Einleitung werden die verschiedenen von Quartz in den keramischen Massen hervorgerufenen Wirkungen erörtert, sowohl vom physikalischen als auch vom chemischen Standpunkt, und es werden die positiven wie auch negativen Einzelheiten dieser Wirkungen abgeschätzt. Weiterhin wird die während des Porzellanbrennens stattfindende geläufige Sequenz der Umwandlungen besprochen, auf der einfachen Basis der dreiachsigen Porzellane. Dann folgen Kommentare über den Gebrauch von Hornstein bei der Formulierung von keramischen Zusammensetzungen, und zum Schluss wird der Einfluss der Hornsteinkorngrösse auf die mechanischen Eigenschaften des Porzellans erforscht, sowie die von der Feinmahlung auf die Quarzeigenschaften ausgeübte Wirkung beschrieben.
