  • Resumen
    • Detailed geological mapping of thin isochronous levels of limestone and gypsum has allowed the establishment of the Supra-Salt Tertiary Continental stratigraphy in the eastern Ebro Basin (Central Catalonia). Six chronostratigraphical units have been distinguished, including materials denuding from the denudation, mainly between Upper Priabonian and Middle Stampian, of both Pyrenees and Catalan Coastal Ranges. The stratigraphic units have been correlated with the Barbastro and Peralta Formations, located in the western part of the study area. As a result, a sketch that illustrates the evolution of the basin in this sector has been constructed. This sketch shows a regression of evaporites towards the east, where the Catalan Ranges and Pyreneen aluvial Systems almost merge. In the study area, three ENE-WSW trending structures have been observed: the Cardona Anticline, the Castelltallat-Suria Structures and the Salient Thrust. The thrusts detach along the underlying salt level. The marker levels mapped have revealed the geometry of the structures observed in the region, which correspond to folds and thrusts that follow different directions and join in the Sanauja Anticline.
