La promoción social de los libertos en la Bética romana a través de la documentación epigráfica

    En el presente trabajo pretendemos realizar un estudio de los medios de promoción social utilizados por los libertos y de las relaciones que los miembros de este grupo social pudieron mantener con las aristocracias municipales, utilizando la documentación epigráfica conservada en la provincia romana de la Bética.

    Los libertos con recursos económicos buscaron mejorar su posición social y preparar la promoción de sus descendientes utilizando los medios que tenían a su alcance, como el evergetismo, el desempeño de la Augustalidad y la obtención de honores municipales. Ellos eran conscientes de que las élites municipales necesitaban de su implicación para ayudar a financiar la costosa vida municipal, por ello, siempre estuvieron dispuestos a aceptar munera (obligaciones, cargas) a cambio de mejorar su estatus personal y familiar.

    Por lo señalado, nuestro objetivo consistirá en buscar y analizar la documentación existente que muestre los mecanismos empleados por los libertos ricos para promocionar en las ciudades de la Bética. Igualmente, intentaremos argumentar si estos procesos pudieron verse culminados y en qué medida.

    In the present work, we consider to make a study about the means of social promotion used by the freedmen and the relations that the members of this social group could support with the municipal aristocracies, using the epigraphy documentation preserved in the Roman province of the Baetica. The freedmen with economic resources sought to improve their social position and to prepare the promotion of their descendants using the means that they had to their scope, as the evergetism, the performance of the Augustal priesthood and the obtaining of municipal honors. For the reasons pointed out above, our aim will consist of looking and analyzing the existing documentation that shows the mechanisms used by the rich freedmen to promote in the cities of the roman Baetica. Equally, we will try to argue if these processes could turn reached and in what measure.
