Resumen de Opinion:: Educational Research and Computer Supported Co‐operative Learning

Brian R. Webb

  • Computer supported co‐operative learning (CSCL) is a new and promising learning environment. It has grown out of wider research into computer supported co‐operative work (CSCW) and has inherited much of that discipline's perspectives, focus and problems. If the potential of computer supported learning environments is to be fulfilled, educational researchers must play a leading role in the development of CSCL systems. This means propagating theories and models of learning in a group context (based on more and better studies of group learning in computer supported and non‐computer supported environments), aligning the multi‐disciplinary methodologies inherent in CSCW with educational research, investigating the level of group support needed including the role of the teacher, establishing a benchmark for the evaluation and dissemination of research efforts and ensuring pedagogical soundness throughout.
