  • The following paper gives an overview of the implementation of the TEMPUS scheme in the Slovak Republic over the last five years. It deals with three main issues: project management and the roles of project partners; the main outputs of Joint European Projects with respect to restructuring of higher education; and the benefits or otherwise of staff and student mobility funded within the scheme. In view of the scheme's success in overcoming the initial problem of the international isolation of Slovak higher education, and of the now increasing number of Slovak‐managed projects, the acute need for strategic planning at both institutional and national levels is noted.
