The present text is the result of an ongoing research of initiation research, which aims to study the greatest number of information on the use of imported textiles among Africans and Luso-Africans, in the Banto societies, related to the slave trade between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Taking into account the presence and valuation of textiles used by traders, both African and European, in these trade transactions as a bargaining chip, as well as the symbolism and rites that involved the use of such textiles by Central Africans, being consulted as sources the works of chroniclers, the Italian missionary Cavazzi and the Portuguese military Cadornega, and also the documents collected by the priest António Brásio. O presente texto é fruto de uma pesquisa de iniciação científica em curso, que propõe-se a estudar o maior número de informações sobre o uso dos têxteis importados entre os africanos e os luso-africanos, nas sociedades Banto, relacionado ao comércio escravista entre os séculos XVII e XVIII. Levando em consideração, a presença e a valoração de têxteis usados pelos comerciantes, tanto africanos, quanto europeus, nessas transações comerciais como moeda de troca, e também os simbolismos e os ritos que envolviam a utilização de tais têxteis pelos centro-africanos, sendo consultadas para tanto como fontes as obras de cronistas, o missionário italiano Cavazzi e o militar português Cadornega, além dos documentos coletados pelo padre António Brásio.
