    This article seeks to analyze the request for assistance made by the governor of the Mozambican captaincy Francisco Xavier de Botelho to the Brazilian consul João Luís requesting the participation of Brazilian vessels in the Portuguese colonial state’s war efforts in the region against the attacks of the Islamic forces coming from the peninsula Arabica in 1828. The text will seek to understand how the controversies surrounding the establishment of the consulate of the newly independent Empire of Brazil in Portuguese East Africa between 1827 and 1828 were related to the dynamics of the slave trade in the Indian Ocean, expansion of the power of the Muscat Sultanate and the threat posed by the Portuguese ownership of the Island of Mozambique

    Este artigo busca analisar o pedido de auxílio feito pelo governador da capitania de Moçambique Francisco Xavier de Botelho ao cônsul brasileiro João Luís solicitando a participação de embarcações brasileiras nos esforços de guerra do Estado colonial português na região contra as investidas das forças islâmicas vindas da Península Arábica em 1828. O texto buscará entender como as polêmicas envolvendo o estabelecimento do consulado do recém-independente Império do Brasil na África Oriental portuguesa, entre os anos de 1827 e 1828, se relacionavam com a dinâmica do tráfico de escravos no oceano Índico, a expansão do poderio do Sultanato de Mascate e a ameaça que esta representava à posse portuguesa da ilha de Moçambique
