    Nicholas Sinclair es un fotógrafo inglés que vive y trabaja entre Londres y Berlín; su trabajo fotográfico expresa un gran compromiso con el sujeto y exhibe un intrigante juego de miradas donde las identidades quedan al descubierto. En el año 1995 el Museo Brighton le encargó una serie de fotografías para el catálogo de la exposición «Fetishism: Visualising Power and Desire», la primera presentación monográfica sobre fetichismo que se llevaba a cabo en Gran Bretaña. Este proyecto fotográfico inicial, junto con otros retratos de artistas de performance, modernos primitivos y, en general, fotografías de sujetos que construían su identidad a través del cuerpo, dio origen al libro The Chameleon Body: Photographs of Contemporary Fetishism, que Nicholas Sinclair publicó en el año 1996.

    Esta reseña presenta algunas de las fotografías más emblemáticas que exponen distintos puntos de vista del cuerpo, que, al igual que un camaleón, se transforma constantemente. Intentaremos adentrarnos a través de la cámara de Nicholas Sinclair a un mundo que parece de otro tiempo, pero que aún permanece latiendo bajo la superficie, retratos de personas que ofrecen realidades corporales diversas y posibles, en algunos casos, alejadas de una falsa idea de lo exótico.

    Nicholas Sinclair is an English photographer who lives and works between London and Berlin; His photographic work expressed a great commitment to the subject and exhibits an intriguing set of gazes where identities are exposed. In 1995, the Brighton Museum commissioned a series of photographs for the catalogue of the exhibition «Fetishism: Visualizing Power and Desire», the first monographic presentation on fetishism to be held in Britain. This initial photographic project along with other portraits of performance artists, modern primitives, and in general subjects who built their identity through the body gave rise to the book The Chameleon Body: Photographs of Contemporary Fetishism that Nicholas Sinclair published in 1996.

    This review presents some of the most emblematic photographs that expose different points of view of the body that, like a chameleon, constantly transforms itself. We will try to enter through the camera of Nicholas Sinclair in a world that seems from another time, but that still remains beating below the surface, portraits of people that offer diverse and possible bodily realities, in some cases far from a false idea of the exotic.
