  • In present-day Romanian, it is to be noticed that, apart from the formal, accidental or constant modifications, words are also subject to modifications of sense. Many lexical units consistent in our linguistic „code” as having a certain meaning have obtained, by semantic loan translation, new meanings corresponding to their lexical equivalents in other languages, English especially. We have selected a series of lexical items that have acquired new meanings and that, by means of media, have penetrated the common language. Some of these semantic innovations will surely be accepted by Romanian language, others are ephemeral yet, having no chance of penetrating the language system.
