    The newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo published, throughout the First World War (1914-1918), a weekly section dedicated exclusively to comment on the conflict. The section was written by the director and owner of the morning paper, Júlio Mesquita, and offers the historian the opportunity to analyse the interpretation of the war proposed by this important organ of São Paulo press. The present article seeks to identify and discuss the procedures used by Júlio Mesquita in the writing of his articles and to verify the ways for a research of this nature offered by the concept of culture of war, opening some questions and indicating possible ways of answering them

    O jornal O Estado de S. Paulo publicou, ao longo da Primeira Guerra Mundial (1914- 1918), uma seção semanal dedicada exclusivamente ao comentário acerca do conflito. A seção era escrita pelo diretor e proprietário do matutino, Júlio Mesquita, e oferece ao historiador a oportunidade de analisar a interpretação da guerra proposta por esse importante órgão da imprensa paulista. O presente artigo procura identificar e discutir os procedimentos utilizados por Júlio Mesquita na escritura dos seus artigos e verificar os caminhos para uma pesquisa dessa natureza oferecidos pelo conceito de cultura de guerra, abrindo algumas questões e indicando formas possíveis de respondê-las
