  • The article presents global filmmakers including Abbas Kiarostami honoring the sixteenth-century Dutch master Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Topics include Bruegel's Low Land countryside being scrubbed all signs of religious strife and simmering rebellion to enjoy the harmonies of black trees on white snow and the ravishing bluish greens of sky and ice; and many poets including William Carlos Williams, John Berryman, Walter de la Mare write ekphrastic responses to Bruegel's painting.
