COVID-19: Los adultos mayores entre la “revolución” gerontológica y la “expiación” gerontológica

    The present paper raises certain dilemmas, debates and questions regarding attitudes and definitions that are being taken in relation with elderly people in the days of COVID-19. It is considered that the emancipatory and citizen achievements of ageing are being lost, arising processes of expiation that make them responsible for death and the anxiety that it awakens. The containment measures to which they are subjected have more to do with ambivalent processes, than with the fact that they are really the risk group par excellence.It is noted that these processes are occurring without being noticed, without being able to think or say. They take away citizenship from old people, make them precarious and older, without responsiveness. It is described as a movement from gerontological "revolution" to gerontological "expiation". It is related to the impossibility of providing integrative responses to situations that, however, require immediate responses to avoid reaching extreme situations of social and tanatopolitical crisis.

    El presente trabajo plantea ciertos dilemas, debates e interrogantes en torno a actitudes y definiciones que se están tomando en relación a los adultos mayores en tiempos del COVID-19. Se considera que se están perdiendo logros emancipatorios y ciudadanos de los adultos mayores surgiendo procesos de expiación que los hacen cargos de la muerte y la ansiedad que la misma despierta. Las medidas de confinamiento a los que se los somete tienen que ver más con procesos ambivalentes, que con el hecho de que sean realmente el grupo de riesgo por excelencia. Se hace notar que estos procesos están ocurriendo sin que se los advierta, sin que se puedan pensar ni decir. Los mismos le quitan ciudadanía a los adultos mayores, los vuelven precarios y envejecidos y sin capacidad de respuesta.

    Es el movimiento que se describe de la “revolución” gerontológica a la “expiación” gerontológica. El mismo se relaciona a la imposibilidad de otorgar respuestas integradoras a situaciones que sin embargo requieren respuestas inmediatas para no llegar a situaciones límites de crisis social y tanatopolítica.
