El restablecimiento de la Generalitat en septiembre de 1977, lejos de limitar sus consecuencias a Cataluña, tuvo importantes repercusiones para el conjunto del Estado. El Real decreto-ley aprobado por el Gobierno de Adolfo Suárez tras la negociación de Salvador Sánchez-Terán con Josep Tarradellas y los partidos políticos catalanes, abrió el periodo de las pre-autonomías. A partir de entonces, otros territorios tomaron como modelo legal el marco inaugurado en Cataluña, que terminaría por consolidarse definitivamente tras la aprobación del Título VIII de la Constitución y su posterior proceso de descentralización.

The consequences of the restoration of the Generalitat in September 1977 were not limited to Catalonia, since the event had important implications for the whole Spanish State. Following the negotiations between Sánchez-Terán, Josep Tarradellas and the Catalonian political parties, Adolfo Suárez approved the Royal decree-law which opened the pre-autonomy period. From that moment on, other territories took the Catalonian framework as the legal model to follow. With the approval of the Eighth Title of the Constitution and its subsequent effects, the decentralisation process and the Catalonian model were clearly consolidated.
