Resumen de 19th-century perspectives on citizenship: Some introductory remarks to the contributions of this section

Louise Zbiranski

  • The contribution assembled in the section 19th-century Perspectives on Citizenship reflect on the historical dimensions of a key concept of modern politics and on one of the most central inheritance from the early constitutionalism. In order to prepare the ground for the participant’s contributions, these introductory remarks first address the peculiar problems citizenship causes for research as it is a normative concept between the past and the present. The paper then highlights three lines of contestation connected with citizenship during the 19th-century. Finally, it brings up some methodological points that followed from conference’s discussions.
