Turismo em Guiné-Bissau: uma leitura dos aspectos positivos e dos fatores limitantes

    O objetivo deste trabalho é compreender as condições que favorecem ou prejudicam o desenvolvimento das atividades turísticas em Guiné-Bissau. Utilizou-se da análise SWOT para identificar os pontos fortes e as oportunidades bem como os pontos fracos e os fatores limitantes para o turismo nacional. Inicialmente, foram identificados os principais aspectos que marcaram a história recente do país, os aspectos geográficos e as condições socioeconômicas da população. A matriz de pontos fortes e fracos e de oportunidades e ameaças foram alimentadas com informações colhidas através de depoimentos de representantes das instituições governamentais ligadas ao turismo daquele país.

    Observou-se que o país vem procurando estruturar-se, por um lado, após vários golpes militares e guerras civis e, por outro lado, como berço multicultural, representado pelas diversas etnias e legado colonial. Este trabalho permite refletir sobre as possibilidades de assegurar um destino competitivo para o país no mercado internacional do turismo, de despertar a atenção do governo para a abertura de novos mercados e a atração de novos investidores e de garantir para a população melhores condições de vida através do desenvolvimento da atividade turística sustentável.

    The aim of this paper is to understand the conditions that favor or hinder the development of tourism activities in Guinea-Bissau. SWOT analysis was used to identify the strengths and opportunities, as well as the weaknesses and limiting factors for national tourism.

    Initially, it was necessary to identify the main aspects that have marked the country's recent history, the geographical aspects and socioeconomic conditions of the population. The array of strengths and weaknesses and opportunities and threats were fed with information gathered through statements from representatives of government institutions related to tourism in that country. It was observed that the nation have been trying to structure itself, on the one hand, after several military coups and civil wars and, on the other hand, as a multicultural cradle represented by various ethnic groups and colonial legacy. This work allows reflection on the possibilities of ensuring a competitive destination for the country in the international tourism market, arousing the government attention to open new markets and attract new investors and ensuring for the population better living conditions through the development of the sustainable tourist activity.
