    This article will discuss the centrality of the literary space in the preservation of collective memory through the subjectivity of the narrator, author and traveller character of Viagem a Portugal, by José Saramago. For this, some examples of architectural nature, houses, ruins and churches.

    Will be analyzed, trying to unravel the motivations inherent to this process, both in an affective and figurative way.

    O presente artigo discutirá a centralidade do espaço literário na preservação da memória coletiva através da subjetividade do olhar do narrador, autor e personagem viajante de Viagem a Portugal, de José Saramago. Para isso, analisaremos alguns exemplos de natureza arquitetônica, casas, ruínas e igrejas, procurando desvendar as motivações inerentes a esse processo, ora por via afetiva, ora por via figurativa.
