  Los elementos que integran el código genético de la Guardia Civil comenzaron a gestarse mucho antes de su nacimiento hace 175 años. Surgida para cubrir una necesidad acuciante entre la población española (la de garantizar la seguridad de sus caminos), la Guardia Civil ha continuado especializándose y adaptándose para ofrecer el mejor servicio a la ciudadanía de la que forma parte. Su versatilidad y su capacidad para innovar han tenido como resultado la incorporación de nueva información a su ADN, que siempre ha tenido al honor como principal divisa. Su arrojo, su dedicación y su nobleza de espíritu se manifiestan en una triple hélice representada en la prenda que se ha convertido en todo un símbolo de la Institución Benemérita, que no duda en acudir allí donde se la necesita, incluso arriesgando su vida para salvar la de los demás. La fidelidad a este código genético explica su participación en misiones internacionales, así como su contribución al mantenimiento del espacio de seguridad y libertad europeo, del que España es miembro. Las acciones, pensamientos y sentimientos de quienes visten el traje verde (cuyo funcionamiento garantiza el del país que soñó con su nacimiento) han trabajado, trabajan y trabajarán con integridad, profesionalidad y lealtad para garantizar, en los términos expresados en la Constitución, los derechos, las libertades y la convivencia de la ciudadanía a la que sirve.

  The elements that make up the genetic code of the Civil Guard began to be sha- ped long before its birth, 175 years ago. Created to cover a pressing need among the Spanish population – to ensure the safety of the roads of the country – the Civil Guard has continued to specialize and adapt to offer the best service to the society they are part of. Their versatility and ability to innovate have resulted in the incorporation of new information into their DNA, which has always had honour as its main representative. Their courage, dedication and nobility of spirit have become a triple helix represented in the three-cornered hat that has been turned into a symbol of the Benemérita1 Institution, who does not hesitate to go where they are needed, even risking their life to save that of others. The loyalty to this genetic code explains their participation in international missions, as well as their contribution to the maintenance of the European space of security and freedom, of which Spain is a member. The actions, thoughts and feelings of those who dress in the green suit – whose level of operativity ensures that of the country that dreamt of their birth– have worked, work and will work with integrity, professionalism and loyalty to guarantee, in the terms expressed in our Constitution, the rights, freedoms and coexistence of the citizens to whom they serve.
