    En los primeros meses de la Guerra Civil española, muchos ciudadanos se vieron amenazados de muerte tanto por el odio de facciones como por la anarquía que imperaba. La embajada de México, encabezada en ese momento por el general Manuel Pérez Treviño, abrió sus puertas a hombres y mujeres de toda filiación. En varios momentos hubo que sortear las presiones para que fueran entregados los desafectos a la República, sin embargo, habiendo resistido todo tipo de coacciones y después de intensas negociaciones, los diplomáticos mexicanos obtuvieron el permiso de sacar ilesos hasta Francia a todos los refugiados de la embajada.

    In the first months of the Spanish Civil War, many citizens were threatened with death both by the hatred of factions and by the anarchy that prevailed. The Mexican embassy, headed at that time by General Manuel Pérez Treviño, opened its doors to men and women of all affiliation. Several times, he was pressed to hand over the refugees to the Republic. However, having resisted all kinds of coercion and after intense negotiations, Mexican diplomats obtained permission to take all refugees unharmed to France.
