Entre os sertões e o mar: cristalização de imagens do sertanejo e construção das relações litoral-sertão (séculos xviii-xx)

    In the first decades of the twentieth century, brazilian intellectuals discussed relations between the hinterland and the coastal towns of Brazil. Some, like Leonardo Mota and Leônidas de Loyola, examined these relationships by calling attention to the "divorce between the hinterland and the Sea." However, this "divorce" and difficult relationship between the hinterland and the coast Brazilians were not new, they brought the unfolding of a series of buildings of images and ideas produced historically. This article makes an analysis on the historicity of these constructs images and ideas that influenced the consolidation of the gap between the hinterland and the coast, and also contributed to the formation of national identities.

    Nas primeiras décadas do século XX, intelectuais brasileiros discutiram as relações entre os sertões e as cidades litorâneas brasileiras. Alguns, como Leonardo Mota e Leônidas de Loyola, analisaram essas relações chamando a atenção para o “divórcio entre o Sertão e o Mar”. Entretanto, esse “divórcio” e difícil relação entre os sertões e o litoral brasileiros não eram novos, traziam os desdobramentos de uma série de construções de imagens e ideias produzidas historicamente. Esse artigo faz uma análise sobre a historicidade dessas construções de imagens e ideias que influenciaram a consolidação do distanciamento entre os sertões e o litoral e, ainda, contribuíram na formação de identidades nacionais.
