    This article aims to analyze the economic transformations that occurred in the city of Rio de Janeiro between the 1830s and 1880s. From the arrival of the Röhe family, immigrants from Altona in the district of Hamburg, Germany, specialists in the manufacture of vehicles such as carriages and tilburis, this article will seek to understand how two generations of one family responded to economic changes experienced in the period. Through marriage strategies, diversification of economic activities, land speculation and society with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of Rio de Janeiro, being the agent responsible for breaking the tradition of family business, this article will rebuild the socioeconomic activities of the members of the Röhe family.

    O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar as transformações econômicas ocorridas na cidade do Rio de Janeiro entre as décadas de 1830 e 1880. A partir da chegada da família Röhe, imigrantes oriundos de Altona, distrito de Hamburgo, especialistas na confecção de veículos como as seges e os tilburis, buscaremos compreender como duas gerações de uma mesma família responderam às transformações econômicas vivenciadas no período. Por intermédio das estratégias matrimoniais, diversificação das atividades econômicas, especulação imobiliária e da sociedade com o Banco Industrial e Mercantil do Rio de Janeiro, agente responsável pela ruptura da tradição de empresa familiar, reconstruiremos as atividades socioeconômicas dos integrantes da família Röhe
