Resumen de Franco Minissi e il restauro innovativo di Santa Maria dei Greci ad Agrigento (1970-1973)

Paula Revenga Domínguez, Rosanna Magrì

  • The project was designed by architect Franco Minissi between 1970 and 1973 regarding the complex of Santa Maria dei Greci, located in Agrigento, Sicily; it is an example of conservative restoration belonging to the Italian cultural environ-ment of the second half of the 20th century. Starting from the critical restoration, developed by Cesare Brandi, Minissi applies the principles of cultural heritage’s active conservation. In this operation of restoration, there is clear evidence of the application of his theoretical studies, which aim to find a functional work, with accurate didactic connotations; moreo-ver, it is clear the importance given to the authentic matter of the building and to its urban context. The value of this architectural artwork, which incorporates two important feature of Agrigento’s historical center, here finds its full affir-mation, thanks to the structural ideas of Minissi. This report shows the descriptive relationship and the project drawings guarded at Archivio Centrale dello Stato.
