    En 2019, las movilizaciones de protestas se han extendido por todas las regiones del mundo. No es fácil encontrar otro momento histórico en el que la calle haya tenido tanta influencia y en tantos sitios. Realmente, aunque no seamos conscientes del todo, la calle se ha convertido en un nuevo escenario de poder capaz de deslegitimar a cualquier institución —en Estados democráticos o no— con un simple discurso de impugnación estructurado por la gramática del desafío, en no pocas ocasiones violento.

    El fenómeno no es nuevo, pero nunca hasta ahora había sido tan general y contagioso.

    El ciclo de protestas se ha iniciado y se propaga con facilidad. Los motivos que provocan la explosión social son locales, pero subyacen elementos comunes que aderezan el guiso. Muchas de estas revueltas no han tenido detrás organizaciones y estructuras consolidadas, sino que han surgido con cierta espontaneidad y sin un liderazgo claro. El potencial movilizador de las redes sociales, junto con su carácter funcional como estructura básica de mando y control, ha sido una de las claves del éxito.

    Protest mobilizations have spread this 2019 throughout all regions of the world. It is not easy to find another historical moment in which the street has had so much influence, in so many places. Even if we are not fully aware, the street has become a new power capable of delegitimizing any institution, in democratic States or not, with a simple discourse of contestation structured by the grammar of the challenge, not infrequently violent.

    The phenomenon is not new, but never has it been so general and contagious. The cycle of protests has begun and spreads easily. The reasons that cause the social explosion are local but underlie common elements that season the stew.

    Many of these revolts have not had consolidated organizations and structures behind.

    They have emerged with some spontaneity and without clear leadership. The mobilizing potential of social networks, to which we can add its functional character as a basic command and control structure, has been one of the keys to success.
