Resumen de La investigación en el campo del vidrio y su estado actual en España

Tras una breve introducción acerca de la función que ha desempeñado el vidrio a través de los tiempos, se señala la atención que, por parte de varios países, viene dedicándose al estudio de este material, y se comentan brevemente las principales líneas de investigación desarrolladas en este campo. A continuación se expone el estado actual de la investigación vidriera en España, dentro del contexto general de la investigación en nuestro país, haciendo especial mención de las posibilidades con que cuenta el Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio del Patronato ''Juan de la Cierva'*. En el momento presente la investigación vidriera española debe programarse preferentemente con un carácter de aplicación orientado hacia las necesidades de este sector industrial. A fin de poder proceder al adecuado planteamiento de esta investigación se presenta la evolución experimentada en los últimos años por la industria vidriera española, y se analiza su actual estructuración y la distribución media de los establecimientos de fabricación en función de su magnitud. Estos factores justifican el interés y la necesidad de desarrollar una importante investigación en este campo. Por último, se hacen algunas breves consideraciones acerca de los posibles sistemas de financiación de esta investigación.

After a brief introductory remarks on the function which glass has performed throughout the ages, special mention is made of the studies made by several countries of this material as well as the main lines of research which have been developed in this field. Afterwards, a report is made on the actual situation of glass research in Spain, within the general context of the research structures in this country, and making special mention of the assets of the Ceramics and Glass Institute. In the present, the Spanish research on glass should be mainly of an applied character and be aimed to cover the needs of this industry. With this in mind, the evolution of the Spanish glass industry during the last few years is presented and its general structure and distribution of factories according to size is also mentioned. The view presented justify the interest and the necessity of further increasing the research effort in this field. And finally, some brief statements are made regarding some possible systems of financing the research in this field.
