The goal of this article is to oppose the concepts of divine wisdom and human knowledge as they appeared in moralized Bibles, by taking as examples several Biblical passages traditionally used in Christian exegesis in order to study the relation between divine wisdom and the efforts made by man to attain it. In accordance with the typological usage of Christian exegesis, the sapiential books were put into relation with the Prologue of John, thus canying the emphasis on the participation of the Christ- Wisdom in the Creation. With the concept of Wisdom as pre-existing divine creation as a starting point, the moralized Bibles highlighted the verity that, Wisdom belonging to the divine world, only studies based on die Holy Scriptures could lead to true knowledge while secular disciplines and the liberal arts would lead to confusion.
