    «La jaula» fue el episodio piloto que Gene Roddenberry y Desilu Productions presentaron a la cadena NBC para vender la serie Star Trek. Aunque la visualización del futuro gustó a los directivos, lo rechazaron por considerar que faltaba acción y que el coste era excesivo. Desilu hizo un segundo piloto que dio paso a la serie, pero contaba con distintos actores y el primero no pudo ser emitido. Pese a ello, constituye el germen de una franquicia que sigue viva cincuenta y cinco años después.

    “The Cage” was the pilot telefilm presented by Gene Roddenberry and Desilu Productions to NBC in order to sell the series Star Trek. Although the executives liked the visualization of the future, they rejected it because they thought it had little action and the cost was excessive. Desilu made a second pilot that gave way to the show, but the actors were different and “The Cage” was not broadcast. Despite this, it is the seed of a franchise that is still alive fifty five years later.
