    La crisis de los medios de comunicación y la eclosión del uso de las redes sociales han creado un caldo de cultivo ideal para el desarrollo y multiplicación de las noticias falsas y la desinformación. Una de las herramientas puestas a disposición de los ciudadanos para facilitarles la identificación de noticias falsas y reducir su difusión son los fact checkers o agencias de verificación de noticias. Estas agencias desarrollan todos los procesos necesarios para determinar el grado de veracidad de una noticia. El estándar internacional para este tipo de agencias es el marcado por la International Fact Checking Network mediante un código de principios al que deben adherirse las agencias que deseen formar parte de esta red de verificadores. En España hay, en la actualidad, tres agencias de verificación de noticias que son miembros de la IFCN: Newtral, EFE Verifica y Maldita.es.

    The current crisis in the media and the explosion of the social networks has created an ideal breeding ground for the development and multiplication of fake news and disinformation. One of the tools made available to citizens to facilitate the identification of fake news and reduce its dissemination are the fact checkers. These agencies develop all the necessary processes to determine the degree of veracity of a piece of news. The international standard for this type of agency is set by the International Fact Checking Network through a code of principles to which agencies wishing to be part of this network of verifiers must adhere. In Spain there are currently three news verification agencies that are members of the IFCN: Newtral, EFE Verifica y Maldita.es.
