    Se mantiene el confinamiento, la amenaza sanitaria de la pandemia de coronavirus sigue y, sin embargo, las calles de las principales ciudades de Irak y Líbano se han vuelto a llenar de manifestantes. En coche, con mascarilla, guardando las distancias, pero protestan de nuevo. Como sostienen algunos cuando se les pregunta: ha llegado un punto en que le tienen más miedo al hambre que a la COVID-19.

    Y eso se debe a que las restricciones derivadas de los esfuerzos de los gobiernos por detener el avance del virus están también causando nueva pobreza, nueva miseria y, por tanto, nuevas corrientes de descontento entre los sectores de trabajo más pobres.

    En este documento analizaremos la situación que están viviendo países como Líbano e Irak a raíz del descontento de los sectores de la población menos favorecidos.

    Confinement remains, the health threat of the coronavirus pandemic continues, and yet the streets of major cities in Iraq and Lebanon have once again been filled with protesters.

    By car, wearing a mask, keeping their distance, but they are protesting again. As some argue when asked, they have reached a point where they are more afraid of hunger than of COVID-19.

    This is because the constraints resulting from governments' efforts to halt the spread of the virus are also causing new poverty, new misery and, therefore, new currents of discontent among the poorest sectors of the workforce.

    In this document, we will analyse the situation that countries such as Lebanon and Iraq are experiencing as a result of the discontent of the less favoured sectors of the population.
