    La Antártida cuenta con una condición especial ya que la paz gobierna a través de la ciencia y la cooperación impulsada por la gravedad e incertidumbre que supuso la Guerra Fría y la amenaza de la guerra nuclear. Aunque el statu quo se haya mantenido desde que el Tratado Antártico acordó tal estabilidad en 1959, el panorama internacional actual ha cambiado drásticamente. Asia se está convirtiendo en una región muy poderosa e influyente, con China como potencia mundial. Para mantener esta tendencia, las estrategias económicas y políticas están siendo impulsadas y orientadas en gran medida por la necesidad de obtener y consumir recursos naturales, donde se mira hacia la Antártida por sus grandes reservas estimadas, intactas. Este documento trata de dar razones por las cuales la comunidad internacional debería ser consciente del preocupante aumento y de la creciente predisposición de la presencia china en el continente blanco por el gran esfuerzo e inversión que está realizando recientemente, operando sigilosamente. El final de este statu quo podría tener graves consecuencias para el Sistema del Tratado Antártico y, por lo tanto, para todo el panorama mundial.

    The Antarctic has a special condition as peace reigns through science and cooperation as it was established due to the gravity and uncertainty of the Cold War situation and the threat of nuclear warfare. Although the status quo has been maintained since such stability was agreed back in 1959 by the Antarctic Treaty, current times had changed drastically. Asia is developing into a more influential player, especially China. In order to maintain this trend, a clear example is that economic and political strategies are being driven and oriented largely by the need to obtain and consume natural resources, where countries look toward Antarctica for its potentially large natural reserves, which still remain intact. This document tries to give reasons why the international community should be aware of the considerable rise and increasing predisposition of Chinese presence in the white continent by the great effort and investment that it has recently making, unnoticed.

    The end of this status quo could have serious consequences for the Antarctic Treaty System and, therefore, for the entire global community.
