Se espera una inminente electrificación del transporte a nivel global y parece una señal clara de que el vehículo eléctrico tiene intenciones de llegar para quedarse. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que existe una importante cantidad de materiales estratégicos que forman parte de las baterías y componentes de estos vehículos para su fabricación.
La enorme dependencia de estos materiales en la industria del transporte no hará sino acrecentar la necesidad de los Gobiernos y las empresas de garantizar el suministro con la finalidad de evitar futuros impactos económicos y sociales que afecten a su seguridad nacional. Igualmente, este riesgo de suministro abre camino a posibles alternativas que equilibrarían la creciente demanda de estos materiales, dando paso a nuevas políticas y mecanismos que permitan a los gobernantes llevar a cabo estrategias a largo plazo.

It is expected an imminent global electrification of the transport, reminding us that the electric vehicle may come to stay. However, it is also a fact that a significant amount of strategic raw materials is necessary for cars and battery manufacturing. The substantial reliance on raw materials in the transportation industry would increase even further governments and organizations aims to secure them properly. This may avoid social impacts as well as economic upheavals that could undermine the national security.
Furthermore, the idea of a likely supply risk of raw materials brings new alternatives that could buffer the unbalances in demand. In this sense, governments and policymakers must support new mechanisms that will lead to long term strategies, contributing to feasible stability in the future.
