  • In this article artists Francis Wey, Gustave Courbet describe the painting they made. Topics include examines that he encountered the stonebreakers by chance on the side of the road and saw in them the most complete expression of poverty; and examines that painting whose subject is the material weight of things, the pressure of a bending back or the quarter-inch thickness of coarse cloth.
