Resumen de Uma liberdade que se governa

Considerando os textos foucaultianos que versam sobre o tema da relação entre liberdade e governo, principalmente seu curso de 1978/79, La naissance de la biopolitique, parece que a relação entre estes dois termos tem que ser colocada sob outras perspectivas que aquelas concebidas outrora em termos de usurpação e tirania. O ponto em questão para Foucault é o de perguntar por que, como e sob que condições aceitamos de bom grado ser governados; por que somos capazes de nos sujeitar a ser governados, problema geral do projeto de uma história política da governamentalidade, em tempos neoliberais. O que já implica uma ideia embaraçosa de liberdade, de um vínculo íntimo entre liberdade e governo, de exigir para si uma condição autosenhorial ao mesmo tempo que, numa relação paradoxal, se coloca em subjugo. Tentaremos esboçar alguns contrapontos críticos a esta relação, principalmente a partir da noção de sociedade civil e da leitura da revolta iraniana.

Considering the Foucauldian texts that deal with the theme of the relationship between freedom and government, especially its 1978/79 course, La naissance de la biopolitique, it seems that the relationship between these two terms has to be placed under other perspectives than those conceived in former terms of usurpation and tyranny. The point at issue for Foucault is to ask why, how and under what conditions we willingly accept to be governed; why we are able to subject ourselves to being governed, a general problem of the project of a political history of governmentality, in neoliberal times. What already implies an embarrassing idea of freedom, of an intimate link between freedom and government, of demanding a self-governing condition for oneself while, in a paradoxical relationship, it is subjugated. We will try to outline some critical counterpoints to this relationship, mainly from the notion of civil society and from the reading of the Iranian revolt.
