The present study is based on the ar-gument that the relational approach of the State, posed by the elaborations of authors such as Nicos Poulantzas and Bob Jessop with other genuinely Latin American contributions, can contrib-ute to the understanding of the Latin American political reality in its speci-ficity, specially of the bourgeois-dem-ocratic state. Thus, through a bibliographical study and analysis, it aims to discuss the analytical potential of the pro-posed approach for the debate and un-derstanding of the notion of State in Latin America.Among the conclusions, it is stated that this potential is verified in the fact that the proposed theoretical frame-work allows an interpretation from the specificities of each concrete social formation, as well as an understanding of why certain class interests are prior-itized to the detriment of others in the state system
