    El estado nutricional de los pacientes hospitalizados es determinante para alcanzar un estado óptimo de salud. Si además hablamos de ancianos, el estado de malnutrición unido al proceso de envejecimiento y otras patologías subyacentes, pueden dar lugar a situaciones de dependencia física, agravamiento de dichas patologías, incremento de estancia hospitalaria y en definitiva una disminución en su calidad de vida. Por eso creemos importante poder detectar de forma precoz el déficit alimenticio, utilizando como herramienta una escala de valoración nutricional en pacientes ancianos hospitalizados.

    Objetivo general: Conocer el estado nutricional de ancianos ingresados en el Hospital Sierrallana de edad superior a 70.

    Objetivos específicos: Conocer valores bioquímicos predictivos del estado nutricional, como la Albúmina, Prealbúmica, Linfocitos y Transferrína, medir valores antropométricos como el pliegue braquial o IMC y detectar diferencias entre hombres y mujeres.

    Estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal. Población: pacientes que ingresen en las plantas de Medicina Interna del Hospital Sierrallana (3ªA y 3ªC) con edad superior a 70 años en un periodo de 18 meses.

    The nutritional status among in-patients is a key element for achieving an optimum state of health. Moreover, when we talk about elderly people, the level of malnutrition beside the process of ageing and other underlying pathologies may lead to physical dependency, aggravation of these pathologies, an increase in the length of hospital stay. As consequence of that, there would be a decrease in their quality of life. For that reason we believe it’s important to identify food-deficit early. For that purpose, a nutritional assessment scale is used in elderly hospitalized patients.

    The main aim is to know the nutritional state of elderly people over 70 years old admitted to Sierrallana Hospital.

    Furthermore, there are some specific objectives. On the one hand, to know biochemical data which are predictive indicators of the nutritional status such as Albumen, Prealbumin, Lymphocytes and Transferrin. On the other hand, to take anthropometric measurements such as triceps skinfold and body mass index (BMI)t. And finally, to detect the differences between men and women.

    This is a cross-sectional observational study, whose participants are in-patients over 70 years old admitted to the Internal Medicine Unit (3ªA – 3ªC) at the Sierrallana Hospital for a period of 18 months.
