  En este artículo se realiza una revisión de la literatura reciente sobre la relación entre diversidad etnolingüística y crecimiento económico. La literatura teórica enfatiza el trade-off entre los beneficios económicos de la diversidad (creatividad, mayor productividad) y el coste de la heterogeneidad social (favoritismo étnico o discrepancias sobre el reparto del gasto público y las políticas públicas). En este trabajo mostramos que la relación entre diversidad étnica y crecimiento no es monotónica con el aumento del tamaño de las unidades de análisis y se convierte en nula en el caso límite de expandir las celdas hasta el tamaño del país.

  This article surveys the recent literature on the relationship between ethnolinguistic diversity on the growth of countries. The theoretical literature emphasizes the trade-off between the economic benefits of diversity (creativity, increased productivity, etc.) and the costs of heterogeneity (ethnic favoritism, divergence on public policies, etc.), which limits the benefits of scale economies. Therefore, we should observe a nonmonotonic relationship between ethnic heterogeneity and growth when the size of the geographic unit of analysis increases. We show empirically that the relationship of diversity and growth is actually not monotonic respect to size, and becomes insignificant in the limiting case of countries
