Teaching French as a second language through Pedagogical Units for Newly Arrived Allophone Students (“UPE2A” in French) could be used to promote plurilingual and intercultural education. Yet, the urgent need to integrate these UPE2A students in the regular school classes often skips this essential criterion for their inclusion and socialization. Through a specific pedagogical tool, “Philosophically Oriented Discussion” (“DVP” in French), a “sociobiographical” and intercultural approach has been implemented in UPE2A. This research-action aims to avoid any form of culturalism by considering these students as thinking subjects in a collaborative and reflexive teaching-learning process.

L’enseignement du français langue seconde via des Unités Pédagogiques pour les Élèves Allophones Arrivants (UPE2A) pourrait participer au développement d’une éducation plurilingue et interculturelle. Pourtant, l’urgence de l’inscription en classe ordinaire élude souvent cet enjeu essentiel pour l’inclusion et la socialisation de ces élèves. Par le biais d’un dispositif pédagogique particulier, la Discussion à Visée Philosophique (DVP), une approche interculturelle « sociobiographique » a été mise en œuvre dans une UPE2A. Cette recherche-action a cherché à éviter toute forme de culturalisme en considérant ces élèves avant tout comme des sujets pensants au sein d’un enseignement-apprentissage collaboratif et réflexif.
