    El sepulcro de Alfonso I el Batallador, depositado hasta su destrucción, que tuvo lugar a mediados del siglo XIX, en la cripta de la iglesia de Montearagón, se conoce por un dibujo de Valentín Carderera, suficientemente explícito para abordar a partir de él un análisis iconográfico. El presente estudio trata de establecer el paralelismo entre la figura del rey aragonés, que con su incesante lucha contra los musulmanes engrandeció como ningún otro hasta entonces el territorio de Aragón, y el sentido martirial que debieron de poseer su sepulcro y la cripta donde fue enterrado.

    The tomb of Alfonso I the Battler, deposited, until its destruction in the mid-19th century, in the crypt of the church of Montearagón, is known to us from a drawing by Valentín Carderera that is sufficiently detailed to be used as the basis of an iconographic analysis. The present study tries to establish the parallelism between the figure of the Aragonese king, who with his relentless fight against the Muslims expanded the territory of Aragon like no other king before, and the martyrial significance that his tomb and the crypt where he was buried must have had.
