In the sixteenth century, two characters stood out in the expansionary deal of the Portuguese Crown: Afonso de Albuquerque, in Asia, and Manoel da Nobrega, in the Province of Santa Cruz. With distinct attributions and faced with different realities the actions of these men left reflected concerns of political and religious, transcending in its efforts overseas. To what extent this overlap of meaning can be assessed in the work of a layman and a clergyman at a time when politics and religion were inseparable for the Christians of the Old Continent? It is intended to realize, through the theme of marriage discussed by both characters, how politics and religion crossroaded in an attempt to build new worlds, providing measures for the problems that the distinct realities posed to the overseas expansion situation.

No século XVI, dois agentes se destacaram na lide expansionista da Coroa portuguesa: Afonso de Albuquerque, na Ásia, e Manoel da Nóbrega, na Província de Santa Cruz. Com atribuições distintas e, diante de realidades também diversas, as ações desses homens deixaram transparecer preocupações de cunho político e religioso, transcendendo suas diligências no alémmar. Em que medida essa infusão de sentidos pode ser avaliada na atuação de um leigo e de um clérigo em um momento em que política e religião eram indissociáveis para os cristãos do Velho Continente? Pretende-se perceber, a partir do tema do matrimônio discutido por ambos, como política e religião imbricaram-se na tentativa de se construir novos mundos, oferecendo medidas para os problemas que as realidades ultramarinas colocavam à conjuntura expansionista.
