Pinturas da estigmatização de São Francisco de Assis: da cena narrativa ao retrato – Séculos XIII-XVI

    After the death of Francis of Assisi (c. 1181-1226), his painted image has suffered repeated modifications. According to part of the historiography on the subject, the image of the saint was successively “corrected” according to the latest version presented of the ideals of the Order that he founded. From the sixteenth century, in part of Italy and Spain, the iconography with the theme of their stigmatization suffered significant changes, not just in some of its iconographic elements, but also in the form of presentation of the episode. This ceased to be represented only in accordance with the iconographic tradition of the theme, as narrative scene, to be figured by a portrait. The purpose of this communication is to discuss the changes observed in this iconography and their possible relations with some of the religious practices in the places and period in question

    Depois da morte de Francisco de Assis (c. 1181-1226), sua imagem pintada sofreu repetidas modificações. De acordo com parte da historiografia spbre o tema, a imagem do santo, inspirada nas modificações realizadas em suas hagiografias, foi sucessivamente “corrigida” de acordo com a última versão dos ideais da Ordem por ele fundada. Além dessas mudanças, a partir do século XVI, em parte da Itália e da Espanha, é possível perceber que a iconografia com o tema de sua estigmatização sofreu alterações significativas, não apenas em alguns dos elementos iconográficos que compõem a cena, mas também na forma de apresentação do episódio que, algumas vezes, deixa de ser representado de acordo com a tradição iconográfica do tema – cena narrativa – para ser figurado através de um retrato. O objetivo da presente comunicação é discutir as mudanças verificadas nessa iconografia e suas possíveis relações com algumas práticas religiosas dos lugares e do período em questão
