O estatuto da história e seu papel social: um resgate do debate epistemológico a partir da década de 1970

    The objective of this article is to think about the social role of the historical writing and of the historian from a discussion on the status of history of the early 1970s. At the present moment, several authors tried to define the place occupied by historical knowledge in the humanities, definition that went through the consideration of history as a narrative. The appreciation of the role of writing has consequences for the actuation field of the historian in society, since his participation would depend directly on his understanding of what is history. Thus, we recover the main arguments of Paul Veyne, Hayden White and Michel de Certeau, exponents of the debate in the 70s, and other authors who recently resumed his reflections, seeking to understand the social function of history from these different theoretical propositions.

    O objetivo do presente artigo é pensar o papel social da escrita da história e do historiador a partir das reflexões em torno do estatuto da história do início da década de 1970. Neste momento, vários autores procuraram definir o lugar ocupado pelo conhecimento histórico dentro das ciências humanas, definição que passava pela consideração da história enquanto uma narrativa. Essa valorização do papel da escrita traz consequências para pensarmos o campo de atuação do historiador na sociedade, já que sua participação social dependeria diretamente do seu entendimento do que é história. Desse modo, propomos resgatar os principais argumentos de Paul Veyne, Hayden White e Michel de Certeau, expoentes do debate dos anos 1970, além de outros autores que mais recentemente retomaram suas reflexões, buscando entender a função social da história a partir destas diferentes posições teóricas
