    Ways of narrate the past: the Christian Humanism at the beginning of the sixteenth century and Albrecht Dürer.

    This paper was inspired by the subject Ancients and Moderns: ways of narrate the past, lectured in 2008 by the professor Manoel Luiz Salgado Guimarães. This subject analyzed different ways of thinking and signifying the past beyond the centuries. Because it is part of a research about religious practices in the sixteenth century and engravings of Albrecht Dürer, this paper will investigate the Renaissance period, especially the movement known as humanism, trying to understand its specifics characteristics in the north. We aim, after clarifying the limits of this movement, discuss how the artist, painter and engraver Albrecht Dürer may be considerate as an active member of this movement, even though he never was a man of letters.

    Este artigo foi inspirado pela disciplina Antigos e Modernos: Formas de narrar o passado, ministrada em 2008 pelo professor Manoel Luiz Salgado Guimarães. O curso pretendeu analisar as diferentes formas, utilizadas ao longo dos séculos, de pensar e significar o passado. Por constituir-se parte de uma pesquisa sobre práticas religiosas do século XVI e gravuras de Albrecht Dürer, este artigo investigará o período do Renascimento, mais especificamente o movimento conhecido como humanismo, buscando entender suas características específicas no norte europeu. Nosso objetivo é, após explicitar os limites desse movimento e suas principais características, discutir em que medida o artista, pintor e gravador Albrecht Dürer pode ser considerado um participante ativo desse movimento, mesmo sem ter sido um homem das letras.
