El objetivo de la propuesta es reflexionar sobre las fortalezas y debilidades de un término, el de ‘élites de poder’, que es tan sugerente para el análisis del cambio social tanto pasado como presente. Nacido a principios del siglo XX en la Sociología y Ciencias Políticas, ha sido utilizado ampliamente en diversos campos de las Ciencias Sociales, y muy especialmente en la Historia. Aunque hoy el término acepta tantas acepciones que es difícil un acuerdo sobre su significado y uso, nosotros partimos de una relectura de la obra clásica de C. Wright Mills, La élite de poder

The aim of this text is to reflect about the strengths and weaknesses of a term, ‘the power elite’, which is suggestive for the analysis of the current and past social change. It was born in the early of the 20th century from Sociology and Political Sciences, and it has been used thoroughly in several fields of the Social Sciences, especially in History. Although at present the term accepts many acceptations, so it is difficult an agreement on its meaning and usage, I work through a review of the C.Wright Mills’ classic book, The Power Elite.
