  • Resumen
    • Objective. The aim was to compare results of two methods for gathering data on adolescents' breakfast patterns: the structured and non-structured 24-hour reminder.

Design. An observational, descriptive, crossover study was performed.

      Setting. Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Participants. Adolescent population at school. The sample was selected at random and distributed proportionally according to the type of school and class.

Measurements and results. The breakfast pattern of 1912 adolescents was described. The results obtained with the two methods were compared by means of the kappa index and simple concordance. The kappa indices were 62.7% for milk and dairy products, 64.3% for cereals and sugar, and 52.2% for fats, while the concordance levels for the different food groups ranged from 76.0% to 85.9%. Those who ate nothing were detected.

Conclusions. We thought that the information obtained differed according to the method used. Using them both together can help identify groups at risk from a dietary deficit.
