Sepultura neolítica do Cerro das Cabeças (Enxerim, Silves, Algarve)

    O alargamento do parque de máquinas da Junta Autónoma das Estradas, situado em elevação, localizada a cerca de 1 km a nordeste da cidade de Silves, conduziu à identificação de estrutura escavada no solo, contendo material arqueológico diverso. Verificámos tratar-se de sepultura, em forma de silo, que guardava os restos de, pelo menos, duas inumações, uma delas associada a três artefactos. Os testemunhos humanos melhor conservados, colocados em posição contraída e em decubitus lateral, com a cabeça voltada para norte, os pés na direcção oposta e a face dirigida para nascente, pertenciam a indivíduo adulto jovem, do sexo masculino. Estes eram acompanhados por pequeno punhal de osso, por bracelete de Glycymeris bimaculata (Poli, 1795), enfiada no antebraço esquerdo, assim como por longa lâmina, de calcário silicioso, colocada frente à face. Trata-se de estrutura, de espólio e de ritual funerário, tardo-neolíticos, com paralelos, ainda que mal caracterizados, no Algarve ou na Península de Lisboa. Um fragmento de costela humana, mostrando seccionamento rectilíneo, e porções de diáfises de ossos longos, contendo finos cortes paralelos, denunciam comportamentos, de carácter ritual, ainda pouco conhecidos.

    The widening of the machinery park of the Junta Autónoma das Estradas, located on a hill, about 1 km northeast of the Silves' city, lead to the identification of a structure, digged in the ground, with a variety of archaeological finds. We concluded to be a sepulchre, in silo shape, that enclosed the remaining portions of, at least, two burials, one of them associated with three artefacts. The human remains better conserved, placed in contracted position and lateral decubitus, with the head facing north, the feet in the opposing direction and the face directed to sunrise, belonged to a male young adult. These were accompanied by a small knife of bone, a bracelet of Glycymeris bimaculata (Poli, 1795), threaded in the left forearm, as well as by a long blade, placed in front of the face. We are dealing with a structure, funerary items and ritual of the Late Neolithic, with parallels, which are still badly characterized, in the Algarve or in the Peninsula of Lisbon. A fragment of a human rib, showing rectilinear cutting, and portions of diaphysis of long bones, having fine parallel cuts, denounce behaviours, of still little known ritual nature.
