Resumen de Lista Oficial de las Aves de Costa Rica Actualización 2013

  Describimos los cambios para el período Noviembre 2012 a Octubre 2013 en la Lista Oficial delas Aves de Costa Rica y la Isla del Coco. Cumpliendo de esta manera once años de actualizar y publicar la lista de aves más actualizada y completa del país, la cual registra a la fecha un total de 906 especies reconocidas como Oficiales. Durante este proceso de actualización recibimos y analizamos la cifra record de 37 propuestas (Formularios), 137 fotografías y 3 videos; paralelamente realizamos revisiones de especímenes en colecciones de museos en Costa Rica y en los Estados Unidos de Norte América. Incluimos en esta actualización: a) nueve registros nuevos para Costa Rica: Anas bahamensis White-cheeked Pintail, Ciconia maguari Maguari Stork, Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus Gray-hooded Gull, Larus heermanni Heermann’s Gull, Larus californicus California Gull, Sayornis phoebe Eastern Phoebe, Pyrocephalus rubinus Vermilion Flycatcher, Sporophila lineola Lined Seedeater y Spizella pallida Clay-colored Sparrow; b) siete cambios de categoría, de Oficial-Sin comprobante a Oficial-Con comprobante: Phaethon lepturus White-tailed Tropicbird, Chroicocephalus philadelphia Bonaparte’s Gull, Nyctiphrynus ocellatus Ocellated Poorwill, Setophaga townsendi Townsend’s Warbler, Setophaga occidentalis Hermit Warbler, Passerculus sandwichensis Savannah Sparrow, Passerina caerulea Blue Grosbeak (Isla del Coco); c) nueve especies se incluyen en la Lista Oficial de la Isla del Coco: Anas bahamensis galapagensis White-cheeked Pintail, Aythya collaris Ring-necked Duck, Charadrius vociferus Killdeer, Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus Gray-hooded Gull, Larus delawarensis Ring-billed Gull, Sayornis phoebe Eastern Phoebe, Tachycineta bicolor Tree Swallow, Piranga olivacea Scarlet Tanager, Spizella pallida Clay-colored Sparrow; d) se detallan las especies endémicas para Costa Rica y con distribuión restringida en la región; e) por primera vez en Costa Rica publicamos la Lista Oficial completa en-linea; f) por primera vez se detallan las especies Sin Comprobante para la Isla del Coco; g) se cambia el estatus No Oficial Dudosa por No Oficial – Por Confirmar. Finalmente en esta edición 2013, actualizamos nuevamente la revisión del estatus taxonómico, nombres científicos y nombres en inglés de todas las especies incluidas en la lista, según la actualización más reciente de la American Ornithologists’ Union (AOU); hacemos un llamado a la comunidad ornitológica a prestar atención a estos cambios ya que modifican sustancialmente las listas anteriores.

  We describe changes in the Official List of the Birds of Costa Rica and the Cocos Island for the period November 2012 to October 2013, therefore completing eleven years of updating and publishing the most current and complete list of birds for the country, registering to date a total of 906 species recognized as Official. During this process of updating we received and analyzed a record number of 37 proposals (Forms), 137 photographs, and three videos; at the same time we reviewed specimens in museum collections in Costa Rica and in the United States of America. We include in this update: a) nine new registers for Costa Rica: Anas bahamensis White-cheeked Pintail, Ciconia maguari Maguari Stork, Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus Gray-hooded Gull, Larus heermanni Heermann’s Gull, Larus californicus California Gull, Sayornis phoebe Eastern Phoebe, Pyrocephalus rubinus Vermilion Flycatcher, Sporophila lineola Lined Seedeater y Spizella pallida Claycolored Sparrow; b) seven changes of category from Official-without-voucher to Official-withvoucher: Phaethon lepturus White-tailed Tropicbird Chroicocephalus philadelphia Bonaparte’s Gull, Nyctiphrynus ocellatus Ocellated Poorwill, Setophaga townsendi Townsend’s Warbler, Setophaga occidentalis Hermit Warbler, Passerculus sandwichensis Savannah Sparrow, Passerina caerulea Blue Grosbeak (Cocos Island); c) nine new species are included in the Official List for the Cocos Island: Anas bahamensis galapagensis White-cheeked Pintail, Aythya collaris Ring-necked Duck, Charadrius vociferus Killdeer, Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus Gray-hooded Gull, Larus delawarensis Ring-billed Gull, Sayornis phoebe Eastern Phoebe, Tachycineta bicolor Tree Swallow, Piranga olivacea Scarlet Tanager, Spizella pallida Clay-colored Sparrow; d) species endemic to Costa Rica and with restricted regional distribution are detailed; e) for the first time in Costa Rica the complete Official List is published online; f) for the first time species without voucher are detailed for the Cocos Island; g) the status Unofficial-doubtful is changed to Unofficial-to be confirmed. Finally, in this 2013 edition, we again update taxonomic status and the scientific and the English names of all the species included in this list, according to the most recent update by the American Ornithologists´ Union (AOU); we call on the ornithological community to give special attention to these changes since they substantially modify previous lists.
